gridtabs Privacy Policy

Last updated: Sep 29, 2025

gridtabs ("we," "us," or "our") provides a customizable new tab experience for Google Chrome users. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you. By installing or using the gridtabs extension you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information We Collect

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier, display name, and email address via Google OAuth. We do not collect your Google account password.
  • User-Generated Content: Grid layouts, bookmarks, notes, themes, and preferences you add within the extension.
  • Membership Metadata: Tier, usage limits, renewal dates, and related status flags needed to enforce free-tier quotas and premium features.
  • Device & Technical Data: Non-personal information such as browser version, locale, and diagnostic logs that help us troubleshoot errors. Diagnostic logging is disabled by default and only captured when you explicitly enable debug mode.
  • Support Communications: Messages you voluntarily send to [email protected].

gridtabs does not collect browsing history outside of the URLs you choose to save into your grid slots, nor do we access content on pages you visit.

2. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide core functionality such as saving and syncing your grid layout across devices.
  • Authenticate your account through Google OAuth and manage membership entitlements.
  • Enforce storage limits for the free plan and inform you when upgrades are required.
  • Troubleshoot issues, monitor service reliability, and improve the extension's performance and usability.
  • Respond to your support requests and communicate important updates about the service.

We do not sell your personal information, use it for targeted advertising, or build individual marketing profiles.

3. Data Storage and Retention

  • Local Storage: Grid data, preferences, and recent activity logs needed for offline access are stored in chrome.storage.local on your device.
  • Cloud Storage: When you are signed in, your grid state and related metadata sync to our Supabase project hosted in the United States. Supabase is a managed Postgres and authentication platform.
  • Retention: We retain synced content while your account remains active. If you uninstall the extension or stop using gridtabs, locally stored data remains on your device until removed. You may request deletion of your cloud data at any time by contacting [email protected].

4. Sharing and Disclosure

We do not share personal information with third parties except in the following situations:

  • Service Providers: Supabase acts as our infrastructure provider for database storage and authentication. Access is limited to providing the gridtabs service and is governed by contractual safeguards.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of gridtabs, our users, or others.

We do not allow third parties to collect data about your browsing activity through the extension.

5. Data Security

We use administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information, including:

  • Encrypted communication (HTTPS) between the extension and Supabase.
  • Access controls and least-privilege policies for our team members.
  • Monitoring for unauthorized access attempts.

Despite these measures, no online service can guarantee absolute security. Please use strong, unique passwords for your Google account and keep your devices secure.

6. Your Choices and Rights

  • Access & Update: You can update most grid content directly within the extension. To review or correct other information, contact us.
  • Sync Control: You may choose not to sign in and keep all data stored locally. Local-only data is never uploaded to our servers.
  • Data Deletion: Request removal of your cloud-stored information by emailing [email protected]. We will confirm deletion within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Permissions: You can review and revoke the extension's permissions at any time via chrome://extensions.

7. Children's Privacy

gridtabs is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. International Users

Our servers are located in the United States. If you access gridtabs from outside the United States, you consent to the transfer and processing of your information in the U.S., which may have different data protection rules than your country.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be highlighted within the extension or on the Chrome Web Store listing. The "Last updated" date indicates the latest revision.

10. Contact Us

If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this policy or your data, contact us at [email protected].

By continuing to use gridtabs after updates to this Privacy Policy take effect, you agree to the revised policy.
